No matter how much I have tried this week (and trust me I have), I can't get away from showing "The War" in class. The feedback is great, so we keep watching...
But on Friday there is a different movie to watch: Barefoot Gen. To say this movie is powerful would be an understatement. The film presents the bombings of Japan from a Japanese perspective. The film was created by a Japanese filmaker Keiji Nakazawa, who survived the bombing of Hiroshima and told the story from his perspective.
This is the fifth year I have decided to show the film, mainly because ever year students who are graduating seniors tell me that they still remember watching Barefoot Gen in my class and it truly gave them a better understanding of the end of WWII.
